One year after the 12th International Conference on Life Cycle Management – LCM 2025, we are pleased to look back on an event that brought the international Life Cycle Thinking community to Palermo and that continues to generate valuable outcomes. Among them is the publication of the Springer Open Access volume: 📘 “Life Cycle Management from Global to Local”
The book brings together scientific contributions, methodologies and practical case studies showing how Life Cycle Management can become a concrete tool to support companies, institutions and policymakers in making more sustainable decisions. LCA, Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment, Social LCA, Carbon Footprint, Circular Economy, digitalisation, Artificial Intelligence, reporting and policy are among the key topics addressed, with one common message: sustainability needs to be assessed across the life cycle and translated into useful information for better decisions and better design.
For Circular Srl, which had the pleasure and responsibility of serving as Local Organizer of LCM 2025, this publication has an even more special meaning. Three of the book editors: Antonio Covais, Marzia Traverso and Rose Nangah Mankaa are shareholders of Circular, together with *Davide Bonaffini, with whom Circular also had the pleasure of collaborating on the development of the world’s first Social Product Declaration (SPD), created for the Hitachi Rail Blues hybrid train.
This is a concrete example of how research, innovation and collaboration between academia and industry can turn Life Cycle Thinking into practical tools for decision-making. As the international community now looks ahead to
LCM 2027, this book also represents a way to preserve and further develop the scientific and professional legacy of LCM 2025 in Palermo, continuing to build a community capable of bringing Life Cycle Management truly “from global to local.”
