Circular Srl – Local Organiser of the LCM 2025 Conference
Circular Srl served as the local organiser of the 12th International Conference on Life Cycle Management (LCM 2025), held in Palermo from 9 to 12 September 2025, marking the first time the conference was hosted in Italy.
Under the theme “Global to Local”, the event represented one of the leading international gatherings dedicated to environmental, social and economic sustainability, as well as the integration of Life Cycle Thinking into decision-making processes within businesses and institutions.
LCM 2025 also included a greenhouse gas emissions offsetting initiative, through the retirement, on 30 September 2025, of 656 VER (Verified Emission Reductions) credits, nominally equivalent to 656 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent.

Under the leadership of its CEO, Eng. Antonio Covais, Circular contributed to the organisation of the conference in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University and Hitachi Rail, playing a key role in coordinating and supporting the event at the local level.
The conference was chaired by Prof. Marzia Traverso, Chair of LCM 2025, Professor at RWTH Aachen University, Director of the Institute of Sustainability in Civil Engineering (INaB), and Scientific Advisor to Circular Srl.
The conference coordination team also included Eng. Davide Bonaffini of Hitachi Rail, who served as Co-Chair, and Eng. Rose Nangah Mankaa of RWTH Aachen University, also a shareholder of Circular Srl, who contributed to the scientific coordination of the conference.
This collaboration provided an important opportunity for international dialogue among the scientific community, businesses, professionals and institutions, strengthening the connection between research, innovation and the practical application of sustainability assessment methodologies.
LCM 2025 in Numbers
The conference achieved remarkable results in terms of international participation:
- 1,038 participants
- 51 countries represented
- 6 continents represented
- 42% of participants from industry
- Over 800 scientific abstracts submitted
These figures highlight the growing importance of the life cycle approach as both a scientific and practical tool for supporting the transition towards more sustainable production and consumption patterns.
Palermo at the Heart of International Sustainability
The conference officially opened on 9 September 2025 with an inaugural ceremony at Palermo's prestigious Teatro Massimo, one of Europe's most renowned opera houses, attended by representatives from academia, industry and public institutions.
From 10 to 12 September, scientific sessions, presentations and thematic discussions took place at the Palermo campus of LUMSA University, located at Via Filippo Parlatore 65, turning the city into an international meeting point for discussions on sustainability.
The scientific programme addressed a wide range of strategic topics, including Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA), circular economy, industrial decarbonisation, sustainable mobility, buildings and infrastructure, digitalisation and environmental policies.
